Even the healthiest and fittest among us struggle with weeks or even months when life takes over and working out seems like a distant and impossible luxury. Whether work is taking over your every waking moment or you’ve suffered a tragedy that has you in a dark place, your desire to workout hasn’t been able to overcome the other factors in your life.

Well, that stops right now. There is a way to stay fit regardless of how impossible it feels to you at the moment. Consider these ideas.

Stay Consistent

If your goal is to workout four times a week, then do something- anything!- four times a week to maintain that goal. Even if heading to the gym for a full hour sweat session isn’t possible, do 20 pushups behind your desk at work or sprint up and down the stairs five times when you get home. Every little bit helps your body back into the regular workout routine, and little by little you can adapt back into standard workouts.

Plan Food for Busy Days

Eating absolutely dictates how fit and healthy you are. A smart eating schedule can help to override weeks when working out doesn’t happen to the level you would like. Choose nutrient-dense food, plan and prep ahead of time, and choose dishes that can be taken on the run. Snacks like fruit, nuts, and veggies can stay in your bag and keep your blood sugar balanced any time of day.

Find a Partner to Hold You Accountable

It’s common knowledge that working out with a dedicated partner makes you more likely to workout and push yourself harder. You may be lucky enough to have a spouse or best friend who is in line with your goals and ready to team up, but if not your local gym or running club can help introduce you to somebody just as eager for a partner like you. You’ll be impressed with the results!
