The biggest mistake that a lot of people make when trying to build more muscle or burn more fat is in treating their workout as something separate to be ‘added on’ to their routine. The reality though, is that a workout routine and diet is actually closely intertwined with every other aspect of your life. Nothing occurs in a vacuum and this is particularly true for exercise.
In order to get into shape then, you really do need to change every aspect of your lifestyle. If you really want it to stick at least. Read on and we’ll look at why that is and at how you should go about getting into amazing shape by changing other areas of your life.
Why You Can’t Just ‘Add’ a Work Out
Perhaps the single biggest predictor of whether or not you’re likely to stick to a training regime is your energy levels. In other words, if you’re someone who has very low energy most days – who comes home from work and then wants to just collapse on the couch – you will likely find you’ll struggle to then commit to an additional 4 hours of intense training a week. Likewise it’s hard to travel to the gym regularly. This is no small amount of additional activity to take up on a regular basis, so if you don’t have the energy to do much in the evenings already, you’re fooling yourself if you think you’re going to start sweating and heaving on a regular basis. Likewise, if your energy is low, you will struggle not to eat comfort foods.
How to Get More Energy
To be more active than you already are then and to stick to a gym regime, you need to get more energy. And how do you do that? By changing other aspects of your life. Maybe this means quitting a class you currently go to weekly, or maybe it means changing to a less stressful job or shortening your commute. Either way, you shouldn’t treat your exercise as ‘separate’.
