What is a HIIT class?

HIIT workout classes are guided exercise sessions that use the principle of intervals to make the workout more effective. You’ll exercise for a few minutes at around 80% of your heart rate max, then rest for a while, and repeat. HIIT workouts offer a time-efficient alternative to traditional aerobics classes. Despite their shorter duration, these sessions keep your calorie burn rate elevated for approximately two hours afterward, maximizing the effectiveness of your workout.

Can a beginner do a HIIT class?

The High-Intensity Interval Training classes at our Tampa Gym are beginner-friendly. You should expect to work hard, but because the intervals are short your next rest is always just around the corner. We’ll always encourage you to push yourself and try your best, but if you feel that the workout is too challenging, you can stop at any time and join back in when you can.

If you have any injuries or you haven’t exercised for a long time, let the instructor know so they can offer you extra support and help you with modifications to the exercises if needed. At Bayshore fit, we aren’t a big-box gym and we have a limited membership so we can give the best possible attention to all our members.

How do I prepare for a HIIT class?

We recommend you wear comfortable sports clothing such as leggings or shorts and a breathable T-shirt or sports top. Make sure the clothing doesn’t restrict your freedom of movement.

You’ll work up quite a sweat in the class, so make sure you’re well hydrated when you arrive, and bring some water with you too.

You don’t have to be fit to start HIIT training, but if you’re new to exercise, check with your doctor to ensure HIIT is a suitable form of exercise for you.

Does HIIT training reduce belly fat?

HIIT training could help reduce belly fat, if it’s done alongside other lifestyle changes such as following a balanced diet with an appropriate number of calories. It’s important to keep in mind that calories are the most important thing when it comes to weight loss. However, HIIT helps your body burn more calories, making it easier to shed fat.
